About the Distillery
After a little rest through January, I am sure we are all looking forwad to the next installment. This month we have Aberlour 10yo.
Aberlour Distillery lies in the heart of Speyside malt distilling country. The water used in this distillery is very soft, coming from the granite spring of Ben Rinnes. The distillery was built in 1826. Steeped in centuries of legend and surrounded by the dramatic Highland scenery of Ben Rinnes, the village of Aberlour lies at the very heart of Speyside, where the Lour burn joins the River Spey. The exceptionally pure, soft spring water used for making Aberlour whisky is drawn from nearby natural springs.
Aberlour 10yo - Our Thoughts
The Aberlour style is soft and textured. The flavours tend to be spicy rather than sweet with almond, nutmeg. Distinctly different to sweeter Speysides, Aberlour finishes with a peppery dryness.
Distillers Tasting Notes
Nose: The dry, fresh, fruity aromas of early autumn apples and pears are subtily enhanced with sweet notes of vanilla and mint toffee.
Palate: Exceptionally smooth and creamy, with spicy-sweet nutmeg and honey combining with the freshness of autumn fruits.
Finish: Long, soft and warming.
